Quick answer: the short version of where to stay in Coron: stay in Coron Town unless you have a specific reason not to. It is where the boats leave from, where the dive shops are, and where you eat. Coron Town has no swimming beach — the waterfront is a working port, and this catches people out more than anything else here. If you want sand outside your room you need an island resort, and that means committing to boat transfers for everything. Dorms start around PHP 250 to 400, decent private rooms run PHP 1,400 to 2,000, comfortable mid-range sits at PHP 2,300 to 4,600, and island resorts run PHP 10,000 and up.

The thing to know first
Coron Town is not a beach town. It is a working port on Busuanga Island, arranged along a waterfront and the National Highway, with tricycles, tangled power lines and grilled pork smoke. It is likeable and convenient. It is not somewhere you walk out of your hotel onto sand.
Every beach you have seen in Coron photographs is reached by boat, on a day tour. If your mental image of this trip involves swimming before breakfast, you need an island resort, and you should understand what that commits you to: every meal, every tour and every trip into town happens by boat on someone else’s schedule.

Where to stay in Coron, by area

The airport is about 23 kilometres from town, roughly 25 to 45 minutes. Staying near the airport is not a thing anyone should do; there is nothing there.

Ratings matter more than price at this end of the market in Coron; there are cheap beds in town sitting on scores in the 2s and 5s. Check the score and the review count together.

Private rooms start lower here than in El Nido.

This is where most travellers land, and Coron delivers better value here than El Nido does.

- The Funny Lion — around PHP 6,630, rated 9.4. A 43-room four-star, open since 2014 and consistently Coron’s best-known hotel.
- Zuri Resort — around PHP 7,385, rated 9.2.
Island resorts and luxury
Coron has less at the very top than El Nido, and what exists is mostly island-based.

- Sangat Island Dive Resort — from roughly PHP 11,800, averaging higher. Sits close to the wrecks, which is the point of it.

If you dive, Sangat is worth the premium purely on boat time saved. If you do not dive, the case for an island resort is weaker than it looks: you are paying for beachfront you will barely use, because you will be out on tours all day.
